Special Tasks of Suppliers

Construction siteThe working processes in a planetarium comprise many segments. Their complexity rises with the magnitude and functionality of the facility. In large and public-oriented domes, the suppliers need to co-operate such that all subtasks operate smoothly. An analogy may depict the different areas of operation: When a house is built, many people bring their expertise to the project - architects design the built environment, construction workers provide the materials, plumbers lay the pipes, electricians wire the electric current, carpenters assemble the doors, and so forth. Until the domicile is finished, many specialists have taken part: roofers, glaziers, pavers, lawyers, financial planners, and many more.

The planetarium is a special facility that additionally needs strong technical supervision.

  • The star projector is manufactured by an optical firm;
  • the fulldome system can be produced by another company;
  • installation may or not be done by other specialists;
  • video projectors as well as further peripherical devices would be provided by others, again;
  • still others care for the computers, networking, remote controls, interactive chairs in the audience, etc.

Almost every device comes along with its own software. Thus, a common interface needs to combine all of them such that the presenter can access the hardware from the main desk. Just like any other business, a planetarium is a facility with several special requirements. The continuous workflow results from the expertise of many specialists who contribute to it.
