This job is not directly based in a Planetarium, but requires a tight cooperation with many planetariums, museums, astronomical institutes, organisations, and the outreach staff within. The Space Science Laboratory (SSL) in Berkeley seeks applicants for the position of a Senior Fellow and Director of the Center for Science Education (CSE). The job holder will lead a group of supporting educators for outreach programs. The successful applicant will be expected to implement education programs, to report to the Director of SSL and to pursue outside funding with the goal of continuing the strong track record of science education work. Further responsibilities include: Develop and execute a long term plan for educational research into audience needs and evaluation of the activities; serve as liaison to community partners such as NASA, National Science Foundation, International Planetary Society (IPS), American Astronomical Society etc.; write grants or contracts as a Principal Investigator for funding; prepare project reports. Applicants must have a doctoral degree in space science or related discipline, and at least 6 years of experience in handling public outreach programs.
