Chiron is the outcome of the model Chronos which was conceived for medium-sized domes. As such it is an extended instrument in the arsenal for large planetaria from 18 to 30 meters. It is a projector of the hybrid-type combining the opto-mechanical sky with a digital video system. The star ball measures 71 cm and is slightly more compact than other projectors. It can display 15,000 stars and, due to a more detailed imaging of the Milky Way, about 1 million dots. Fibre optics enhance their brightness. Moreover, almost all Messier objects are included. The first installation was in Kagoshima, Japan, in April 2007.
